Sabtang: Chavayan Village

We passed a narrow road along the coast with cliffs,
overlooking the turquoise sea water.
We also witnessed the impressive structures of the hills and mountains
as we traversed going to our next destination, the Chavayan Village.

At the entrance of the village is where the Sabtang Weaver's Association is located.
It is a group of local women who weave "vakul"  and "kanayi," gears that is made up of dried date palm leaves,
which protects them from wind, rain and sun when they're out in the field.

The woven gears can be rented for a fee and have your photos taken wearing it.
We did this when we were in Marlboro Hills in Batan.

Instead of an arch, the Chavayan Village had this circular landmark.
Actually, we wanted to have our photos taken holding the round signage but when we touched it,
it moved.
We got shocked!
So we hurriedly fixed it and made it stood still not to really break it.
Otherwise, OMG!! Waaaah!

The saunter along the village was pleasant despite the sizzling heat of the sun.
The locals are very friendly and hospitable.
That's one of the greatest thing about being a Filipino. :D

They'd say hi, flashed their sweetest smile and even invited us inside their humble abode
but we refused as we wanted to explore the whole place before we run out of time.

the location is really good for photo ops..haha!
wood-painted street sign..
the chicken's sooo cute...
Arguing coz I took his photo?! haha!
If given the time, we could have stayed a little longer in Sabtang.
They don't have inns or hotels, instead they offer their homes, of course for a fee.
I saw one actually, it's only P150/night.

Walking through, we spotted the  Chavayan Chapel which is the only church in Batanes that has a cogon roof that withstands the tough typhoons that visited the area.
The chapel is also known as Sta. Rosa de Lima Chapel.

At the end of the village is a white sand beach where two rock formations seemed to be kissing.
Zoom, zoom, zoom you camera and you'll see them kiss.
Sweeeet!! haha

Goodbye is one of the hardest words to say.
But we have to!!
We'll see each other, Chavayan!!
