Looking Back

Looking back
I saw myself down in the dumps for such a long time
(I dunno when was it coz I already lost count)
People around me had no idea what was goin' on in my life
I was grumpy, ill-tempered, irritable and all
But they tried to kinda understand me
They've kept their distance which was okay, I think
Because, you know, explaining stuff is really not my thing back then so uber hard
So I was kinda happy and at peace revolving in my own circle
Which I think was totally weird for some people, but I didn't care
All I cared about was my inner peace and stability - mental and emotional.

Then one day,
I found myself looking for something divine (was it?)
I wanted some intervention that's beyond human capacity and imagination.
And there I found myself hunting for G.
G brought me back in His arms
He allowed me to breathe slowly, according to my  own pacing
He embraced me and let me feel His mighty presence
Through my friends, that I can only count in my fingers
Through the community, I am in at the moment,
G showed me how it feels like to be home and be loved

Slowly, I am moving forward
I got to love myself, see my worth
I got to see what I really wanted and what I really deserve
I got to explore and do the things I craved
And most importantly, I got to spend time with the people who love me unconditionally

One way or another, I still trip at times,
But it doesn't bother me anymore
I just keep on telling myself
That I have to pull myself back up
And not to dwell too much on being down
Otherwise,
I'll be missing a lot of things that the universe is giving me.

So to everyone who was with me during my "darkest" journey, Gracias.
Also, I thank G for always being there for me,
no matter what.

Inaanak Time

My inaanak,

I am sooo happy to meet you finally.

I was suppose to surprise you and your mom on my birthday but it didn't happen.
It was the other way, instead.

When I went to your house, your help told us that your mom went to SM to buy some groceries and that you're sleeping at that time.  However, your dad was with you.

Then the following day, I came to see you.  Again, you were sleeping when I arrived.  I let you sleep as I talk to your grandma and mom.  I missed them.  It feels awesome to be with them.

While we had snacks, you woke up and your mom took you out of your crib.  She initially carried you out of your room, but when I saw you, I took you from her.  I carried you with this gigil mode, but your huge, shocked eyes were on me.  I know you were thinking.  Who's this lady carrying me?  I haven't seen her.  O.O

But you know, what's amazing? You didn't cry or looked at your mom and dad, and ask them to carry you.  You let me carry you.

Then, when we were done eating and chatting, we played with you in your room.  Of course, I can't skip this moment not taking loads of photos of you.  And you were magnificent.

Oh, I will miss you, little sweetie.  I'll bring tons of memories when I go back to the sandpit.

Carabao Island: Tagaytay Point

We capped our island tour with stopping by at the Tagaytay Point.

The point is an uphill view that has been compared to Tagaytay in Batangas, hence its name.  Usually, this place has an entrance fee but, because we went there late and they are almost closing, they just let us enter and savor the view.

Standing at the highest point of the island, you'll see Boracay Island from afar.  Would you believe that I've never been there?  And this is the first time I saw that island?  Well, I don't know.  Maybe because I told myself that this is the last beach/spot in the Philippines that I'll visit.  They said that it's beautiful.  I can't argue with that, I've seen tons of photos of Boracay.  But I still believe that other places in my beloved country 's worth more than those as mentioned earlier.

Aside from the overseeing the island, watching sunsets are fantastic in this area.  We planned on catching the sunset it when we started our tour, but it didn't show up well because of the cloudy sky.  The rain the previous day might have brought those gray and gloomy clouds that hid the sun as it sets.

We stayed there for a while hoping to see a glimpse of the sun because we were still hopeful, but it wasn't our lucky day.   We might need to go back and see it for ourselves next time.

Thanks for the amazing sites, Carabao Island.  Till next time.

Carabao Island: Kuding-Kuding Point: My First Jump

Kuding-Kuding Point is one of the leading attractions when you roam around Carabao Island.    It offers a majestic cliff diving experience and picnic destination for both locals and tourists.

The term Kuding-kuding came from a Visayan word, which means "cat."  My guide didn't know exactly why it was called such, but according to some blogs, the sound of the waves created a "meow" sound like, hence the term.

One can jump off the cliff infinitely depending on the weather.  But one must pay an entrance fee of Php 100 per person.   For non-swimmers but with a brave heart, they can jump off the cliff with their life vest with them.  Ask for it from the caretaker, and he'll provide one for you.  Remember Safety First.

And say, cliff jumping is not your thing.  You can still enjoy this clear, turquoise water by going down into the cave, which has several openings that leads to the ocean.  My guide tried it, and according to him, it was tough because the water level was high so he didn't advise me to do it.

The water in the cave was so clear that you can see the sea floor.  I took loads of photos of this beautiful creation so I could share it but my pictures don't give justice to what I saw and experience.  I think I spent more than 30 mins here just taking in everything.  It's surreal.

By the way, this site is also suitable for watching the sun as he retires for the day.  I got a terrific silhouette shot here that you can also do when you visit this place. :)

'Til next time, Kuding-kuding.
But first, I need to learn some basic swimming to have a braver heart.

*I challenged myself and jumped off the cliff (with vest) twice (yey!) but it took me years before I did my first.  And the feeling (after my first jump) was unexplainable that I need to do another.  Haha! And so I did.  I was so proud of myself for doing it that I deserve a double tap on my shoulder.*  Haha!

Al Hasa: A day's Adventure

It was a cold and sandstorm-y yet magical day when we went to this awesome place called Al-Hasa. It is a traditional oasis region in the eastern part of Saudi Arabia.  The province is located around 60 km inland from the coast of Persian Gulf and used to be the main city of Al-Bahrain that provides most of its agricultural output (Wikipedia.)

This trip of ours was greatly influenced by the posts of The Pink Tarha on their IG and Facebook accounts on Al Hasa that it aroused our inner desires to travel and explore the said province.  We were enticed to see the Al Qara Mountains, Judas' Cave (for Filipinos) or commonly known as the "Land of Civilization" today, however, we didn't go to other places that they visited because it didn't interest us that much so we thought of going somewhere else instead.

So, on the day of our departure, we left our humble abode at around 40 mins past 6 in the morning.  We hopped in a cab via Uber and head our way to the railway station which took us about 30 mins  to get there and we paid 14SR for it for 4 passengers (not bad, right?)
the entrance of the station
When we arrived at the station, we went straight to their First Class Lounge, which was not hard to find.  It's just located on your left side once you enter the station.  :)

relaxed at their lounge

The lounge was quite small with a few benches and side tables.  Here, you can enjoy your breakfast, which you can find on the table near the entrance while waiting for your boarding.  They have dates, ghawa, bread, coffee, and tea.    Just help yourself with whatever you want.  :)

Then, after a few minutes, we started boarding the train.  Yey!  The process was quite simple - go in the queue where they will check and scan your ticket (Note: No need to print as they can scan it from your phone), have your stuff scanned and yourself checked then pick up your things and go to the train.  Be mindful, though, of your train number because you might hop in the wrong car and be seated in the wrong seat.  :)

off to the train
best way to kill time
The journey was smooth and quite fast compared to driving it with a car but I still got bored.  I didn't know why.  Maybe because I can't see much on my window except deserts (but what else will there be, right? haha.)  Good thing, I brought with me my book so the almost 2-hour journey passed swiftly.

When we arrived in Al Hasa, we went past the station and waited for our Uber driver to bring us to our hotel.  My friends booked a hotel where we were supposed to stay but we had to cancel it because the hotel doesn't have hot water.   I, or should I say we, we don't want to struggle taking a shower because of the below zero water.  So our Uber driver suggested another hotel, Adem Hotel, and that's where we stayed.  The Uber fare was 15SR only.

So after our checked-in and late lunch, we hailed another Uber to bring us to Al Qara Mountain (Uber fare  ranged from 25SR -35SR).  The drive was a breeze of around 30 mins and when we arrived at the location, we got so excited and took loads of pictures outside before exploring its inside.

Noting our time, we headed to the counter to purchase our tickets to see the inside.  We paid 25Sr which was supposedly 30SR.   I don't remember why we had that discount but it was nice.  :)  The guy in the counter instructed us which way to go and where to have our tickets checked and so we did.

We spend  around 1.5 hours on the mountain and we looked for the stairs that leads to the caves but we missed it.  We didn't know where to go and where or who to ask as there was no staff roaming around the area.  It was a struggle and a waste of time to go back to the information center just for that.   Anyhow, maybe next time. This will be another reason for me to come back, right?
At around 1430, we were picked up by our guide to Asfar Lake.  We drove for about an hour before we reach the jump-off point to the lake.  Meanwhile, she told us a lot of stories about her province so we learned a lot from her while we were traversing.  Then, while we were on our way, we spotted a number of sceneries including this rock which had gone viral when a local posted it on the net.  They've called it "Levitating Rock" because of how the photo was taken that it made an illusion that it was floating in the air.
The "Levitating Rock"
why not do ATV's in the sand
After that long drive, we finally met Naser, our guide/driver to the lake, at the jump-off point.  He owned a 4x4 car, which is the car of choice to use in the desert.
The trip to Asfar Lake was like going to a place of nowhere.  I mean, tons of desert with no particular roads and road signs.  The driver was the only one who knew where we're heading.  He didn't even use his GPS and that's awesome.
going to a place of nowhere
We passed deserts with white sand and wild plants growing in it.  Loads of it.
camels
We spotted a Bedouin herding his camels.  We tried to get closer but the caretaker drove us away because the camels were not really in a good mood.  Safety first.
hill made of sand and dead camels at its foot
As we move further, we noticed dead camels at the foot of the "hill" made of sand.   Upon our request, our guide allowed us to go out and take photos of our surroundings while he drifted.
drifting
When we were inside his car, we thought we were going ahead to the lake.  Surprisingly, he started moving up the hill drifting here and there and got our senses awakened.  One of my friends shouted at her heart's content.   The experience was amazing.  I remembered the good times I had when I did the desert safari in Dubai a few years ago.
When the heart pumping drive was over, we continued our journey to the lake and spotted some awesome sceneries that I thought never existed in this country.
am not sure what they are doing but according to Naser this is prohibited
I can see water
wild weeds
Soon after, we found ourselves near the lake.  Yey!!
a blissful walk
We walked around, took photos, and felt the sand in our toes against the cold breeze.  We actually acted like cold didn't bother us really.  We even dressed up like it's summer time.  Oh, the things you do...  Haha!

note that I've been here
a wonderful view of the lake.. too bad, the sun was hidden
looks fine but it was eerie, one false move and am dead
Finally, when the lake exploration was over, we started heading back.  The journey took longer than we thought, or maybe it was just us.  We asked our guide to drop us at a local souq.  We wanted to grab some food to eat, buy water, and roam around for a bit.
care to have ghawa, or tea?

And just like that our amazing trip ended.  O.O
