the view when we went on the bus |
Petra is an archeological area in the south of Jordan,
which was dubbed as the Rose City because of its red-rose colored sandstone hills.
Others call it The Lost City because it was hidden from the world for centuries.

The site was unknown until a Swiss explorer discovered it in 1812.
Then Petra became a UNESCO World Heritage in 1985 and was named amongst the
New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.
Ok, let's start our journey by foot.
Or you may opt to hire camels, horses with carriages or donkeys. :)
Me? I went by foot so I could appreciate my surroundings better, of course, at a slower pace. :)
the entrance to the Siq |
A Siq means "the shaft" in Arabic is a small and narrow gorge which serves as the entrance to Petra
and is used as a passageway for caravans entering the city.
By the way, just before you get into the Siq, on the right side, are stores where you can buy refreshment and souvenir stuff.

One of the famous attractions in Petra is the Treasury which is about over 2, 000 years old.
In reality, it is nothing more than a facade with a small hall used as royal tombs.
The Treasury at Petra |
Several scenes from the movies Indiana Jones and The Last Crusaders were filmed here.
Hmm, you can reenact the scenes here and click your cameras. :)
Motorized vehicles are forbidden here.
Only camels, horses and donkeys are allowed to walk through the Siq.
You can hire them to bring you to and around Petra for a fee. :)
